The Librarian & The Lioness

THE LAST 20+ YEARS

For more than two decades, I’ve been immersed in the world of Jungle/Drum & Bass, performing under the name The Librarian. My journey began in 1999, dedicating myself to the sound and taking it to raves, clubs, and radio shows around the world. What started as a personal pursuit quickly became a way to connect communities through music.

In 2009, I founded FromTheAnnex.com. Originally created as a platform to promote my own work, it soon grew into something larger: a space to showcase DJs, producers, and crews from across the Mid-Atlantic. Over time, it evolved into DC’s longest-running weekly Jungle/Drum & Bass broadcast—first as a podcast, then a radio show, and today as a livestream every Monday night on Twitch. From The Annex continues to shine a spotlight on the legends of the DC Beltway, while documenting and preserving the oral history of the scene.

WHY THE LIBRARIAN

The name The Librarian came from an offhand comment by a friend about my meticulous record collection. At first I performed as Edward the Librarian, but when a promoter shortened it to The Librarian on a flyer, the simplicity stuck—and it became my permanent moniker.

What keeps me going after all these years is the culture itself: the energy of the crowd, the depth of the records, and the chance to connect people through sound. From The Annex remains not just a broadcast, but a living archive of Jungle/Drum & Bass in the region I call home.
